Our firm began business in Cumberland in 1946 as Mel's Cash Register
serving the business community as a service oriented family owned
concern.
The recent history of our firm began in 1987-88 with
the incorporation of the company. In 1987, the company had gross sales
of approximately $300,000 and employed three people in a single office
in Cumberland. The growth plan that began with the incorporation has
resulted in 500% growth over 15 years. Growth was stimulated by an
expanded range of services supporting desktop computing and desktop
office systems. To better reflect our expanded capabilities, the
company became Mel's Business Systems, Inc. in the early 1990's.
Today, the company has a staff of 16 professionals serving Maryland,
West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania with offices in Cumberland and
Martinsburg.
The office business system industry has recognized Mel's with numerous
sales and performance awards during the last ten years. Micros Inc.,
Tec-America and Datasym are among the companies that have done so. Most
recently, Mel's has been awarded the nation's Top Five Dealer for
Future POS Software and was a finalist by the Maryland Chamber of
Commerce for 2003 Small Business of the Year.
